How do you remove the smell of cat urine from furniture?

My husband just paid $500 dollars for a used couch from a furniture store and the thing smells like cat pee. I have tried a pet odor neutralizer and it didn't even help. I can't pinpoint the source but it smells all across the top where your head is. Please tell me we didn't just waste $500.
