I need to move my stove plug?

I need to move a stove plug about 5 feet. The wire come up from the ceiling and we dont want to take a whole bunch of drywall of and create more work. Is it legal to make the current plug into a junction box and then run the wire behind the wall into a new stove plug? Is it legal to do this work myself?
